AJWS Celebrates 40 Years of Pursuing Human Rights

For generations, AJWS has been living out its Jewish and progressive values by helping advance human rights worldwide. We have been bolstered by our belief in the inherent dignity of every person, or b’tzelem elohim — and we remain committed to supporting grassroots activists on the frontlines of change. The moral and spiritual imperative of tikkun olam has fueled us for 40 years and will continue to fuel us for at least 40 more.

Our work has always reflected the limitless potential we all have to shape our own futures. The activists supported by this community have faced many challenges and so have we. But we know that while the world and its injustices are vast, opportunities for solidarity and justice are possible — even inevitable — when we are in community together.

Looking towards our shared future

For 40 years, AJWS has been responding to the most pressing issues of the day. We help communities recover from natural disasters and threats to civil rights, build life-sustaining connections and infrastructure, expand opportunities for women, girls, and LGBTQI+ people to live with dignity and much more.

We’re working to ensure the future is bright — and we know it will be, because we’ll have worked together to create it.

What human rights do you hope to see realized in the next 40 years?

Times may have changed. But for 40 years, our mission has remained the same.
